Hope you are all keeping safe and enjoying the lovely weather. With restrictions easing slightly our lovely residents at Oakdown & Carricks have managed to enjoy some outings, see family more and have made the most of the good weather.

Residents have been decorating their own masks and practising wearing them to enable them to access the shops and public places again.

Country & Western Festival Time

Festival Time

In June Oakdown residents were entertained by Melodie and Robyn from ‘The Song Birds’, they sang lots of Country and Western songs. Residents and staff dressed up, then sang and danced in the beautiful sunshine.

Oakdown have plans for more festival days during the summer including a Disney themed festival day in July with music and a pizza van. August’s festival day theme will be ‘The Beach’. Sand, spades and buckets will be at the ready with fish and chips for lunch and a seaside sing along!

Adventurous Activities

Some residents at Carricks Brook have enjoyed some amazing days out including a muddy ride on quad bikes, climbing some high ropes and flying on zip wires! For those that like calmer activities there have been walks in the park, beach trips and even a day at the Bluebell Railway.

New Pools

Residents have enjoyed many years splashing in a pool in the garden of Carricks Brook. Work has started to install a new pool so that they can safely continue to benefit from a pool for many more years to come, the base has been laid, next will be the decking and fencing!

Oakdown has been raising money for a hydrotherapy swim spa in their garden for many years and finally installation has begun. Power and water supplies have been installed and will soon be connected. All being well, the pool should be ready for opening under a temporary marquee by the end of July! The pool will add a great deal to our residents’ sensory experience, the swim jets will help the more able with exercise and the warm water jets will provide a safe environment for gentle physio and stretching exercises. The next stage will be to create a more permanent structure over the pool to enable it to be used all year round. Donations to fund this are always welcome, contact the Oakdown Trust Treasurer: friends@oakdownhouse.co.uk
