Although lots of you may not like the snow, the residents at Oakdown and Carricks had a great time in the snow; they enjoyed wintery walks and snowball throwing. It gave everyone a new reason to get outside for some fresh air and fun!
Fun with food
The residents have also been enjoying lots of cooking and baking as well as celebrating special days such as Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year. Some of the residents at Oakdown really enjoyed a Valentines themed disco.
Over the last few months we have had two staff promoted to new roles within our homes. The care sector doesn’t always promote itself as a place that offers career progression but at Oakdown and Carricks, and many other care settings, there are a large array of roles to fill. Mark, a staff member at Oakdown, came to us as a Team Leader and is now the training Coordinator. Jess, another staff member, came to Oakdown as a support worker, was then a Team Leader and is now a Care Coordinator. Both homes have a fantastic induction programme and encourage staff to take specialist training in areas that interest them. This enriches the lives of the residents while keeping the job interesting for staff. Everyday is different working with adults with learning disabilities, making it a great career choice!
