“I really enjoy working for Oakdown House and arriving with a positive attitude makes a difference to the residents who we support to promote their independence. Taking residents out on activities makes a difference to their days and puts a smile on their faces. That’s what it’s all about, seeing residents with a bright smile makes my job worth while. Also I have learnt so much from the training that Oakdown provides.”

“I have been working in day services for several years, I love being able to bring meaningful and stimulating activities to every individual resident. It’s wonderful seeing everyone try new activities but not forgetting reminiscing about the ‘good old days’. Everyday I am happy to come into work with a beaming smile on my face.”

“Never had I thought that I would end up in the care industry after working in retail for so long but I really do enjoy this line of work and enjoy spending time with the residents. They are all funny in their own way and will laugh with you. I have worked at Oakdown for several years now and have learnt alot about caring and am still learning! I didn’t expect the job to include going out on fun trips with the residents and enjoying their lovely company”

Previously I was stuck at a stressful desk job, I felt unhappy, unfulfilled and undervalued as a person.   So I decided to completely shake things up and come to work as a support worker at Oakdown House. And what an incredible, life changing decision this was! In the 2 years I have been here supporting our wonderful residents and working alongside my brilliant colleagues, I feel like I have found myself again, and I have made some friends for life working here too.

Every day is different. Whether it’s supporting residents to go on trips out in the community, attend college or supporting them with everyday tasks at home, I am left with an immense feeling of satisfaction and pride. Working at Oakdown House has not only enabled me to make a huge difference to our resident’s lives, it has changed my life for the better too.”
